How it Works

What to know before your session

What to wear

Wear clothes to sweat in—bathing suits and athletic clothes must be worn at all times in the sauna—with warm layers that are easy to remove. We have covered bins and hooks for you to store your jackets, sweatpants, and shoes during your session.

What to pack

Bring a water bottle and a towel to sit on in the sauna. You may want a second towel to clean off the sweat!

How to prepare

Arrive hydrated and nourished! This is an intense activity, and bodies handle it best when they’ve had sufficient meals and water beforehand.

Enjoy 10-20 minute rounds in the sauna, separated by breaks to cool down

If you’re new to sauna or it’s been a while, try 5 or 10 minutes in the sauna at a time, separated by a few minutes to cool off outside. Check in with how you’re feeling—your experience should feel like a challenge, but if you’re feeling light-headed or woozy, slowly stand up and step outside to cool down.

Just as important as heating up, it’s important to cool down between rounds in the sauna. Cool off just by stepping outside in the crisp Maine air, or douse yourself with our bucket of ice water. Head back into the sauna when you feel like you’ve sufficiently cooled your body down.

Good sauna etiquette

  • Sit on a towel in the sauna

  • Shoes off

  • Close doors quickly behind you to keep the heat from escaping

  • Always ask if everyone is ready before pouring water on the rocks

  • Keep chatter to a comfortable noise level

  • Mind your head as you walk through our short doorways!

Have any questions about how best to enjoy your session? Just ask.

You’ll always have a friendly sauna host nearby to answer any questions you have (and re-stock the wood!) We’re happy to chat and make sure you have a great time at our sauna.
